Are you the parent of a young person aged between 9 and 11 years old? Do they want to learn to programme computers in a fun way?
If so, join the CodeClub being held at Burnage Library, Activity and Information Hub. Code Club Burnage runs once a month for one hour and is FREE!
Run by Code Club volunteer Tom, an experienced ICT/Computer Science Lecturer, Code Club Burnage is now in its third year.
Coding is the future, and starting off with a Code Club like ourselves will help you towards your problem solving skills, maths, programming, and Computer Science terminology. We are based at Burnage Library, we have free PC’s to use or you can bring your own laptop with Python and Scratch installed on it, we also provide free Wi-Fi as well.
We cover physical computing such as the BBC Micro Bits, Python programming, Scratch programming, HTML (Basic websites), Computer Science jargon in a nice friendly environment.
We recommend giving it a go as your child will progress in their maths and Computer Science classes with their knowledge of problem solving, maths operators, proof reading and programming skills (Python & Scratch).
Once learners complete a module on Scratch or BBC Micro Bits or HTML or Python each learner will receive a free a free Code Club certificate to take home.

CodeClub
You can join the club by finding the club on www.codeclub.org.uk and clicking the “Join Club” link.
Parents will be sent a link to register themselves and their child and have to accept a disclaimer before their child can be allowed to attend. All volunteers running the club are DBS approved in line with our safeguarding policy and the policy of the STEMNetwork.
STEMNet is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network. The organisation can be found at www.stemnet.org.uk and often appoint STEM Ambassadors, who work in a STEM industry and are tasked with promoting and encouraging STEM subjects in schools and education.
Ideally yes. However, we do have a few PCs available for use by those who don’t have a computer at home. Also, don’t bring big, bulky desktop machines. Laptops only. You might get away with a netbook or Raspberry Pi, as long as there are monitors available.
Until the regularity of attendance is known, we do politely request that attendees with their own PCs bring them if they have a laptop available, so that our PCs can be given to those who otherwise would not be able to participate. The library has Wi-Fi and anyone bringing their own PC can connect to the Wi-Fi network, as long as the accounts used on the child’s computer are allowed to connect to different Wi-Fi networks.
Over time, we may find that we can support the club with the computers available, in which case, you won’t need to bring your own computers any more.
We support WIndows XP/Vista/7 and 8.x. We also support Apple Mac and Linux. The courses are delivered online and the platforms we use for languages like Scratch require the latest version of Java to be installed. You can download the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) for your machine by going to https://www.java.com/en/download/ and clicking the Free Java Download button.
Please do this BEFORE you attend the club as this will take up time from the tutor at the beginning and won’t allow all the children to make use of the time available.
Yes. This is also part of both the CodeClub and STEMNet registration processes. They couldn’t have successfully registered as volunteers without them.
